Born and raised in North Carolina, Matheson began his wine career by enrolling in the VEN Program at the renowned Shelton-Badgett North Carolina Center for Viticulture and Enology. There, he learned a combination of traditional winemaking methods and modern technology before embarking on a journey that would take him to Burgundy, France, and four states in Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.

Matheson understands the power of a great vineyard site and its role in grape-growing and yielding the finest, most authentic wines—even in the most challenging years. Indeed, that’s why he answered a higher calling—to be a maker of premium wines in the higher elevation of North Carolina.

Matheson loves getting his hands dirty and working side-by-side with a strong team, which is why he’s right at home here at Dynamis Estate Wines. When not embracing the challenge of making great East Coast wines, you’ll find him tinkering with cars and motorcycles or taking them for a scenic spin in the country hillside.
